Homeschooling is like breastfeeding.
Wait.
What?
Yes, homeschooling is like breastfeeding for a lot of reasons. I've read a few blogs through the years and stumbled on the analogy from a few sources; some go in to detail about how it's different and I really enjoy one blogger's take on why homeschooling is like nursing.
I love the expression because it helps me to remember why I'm homeschooling: it's the best thing I can do for my kids. It might not be an option or a desire for others, but it is for me. There are days that it's lovely and everything seems to click and then there are days that it's the last thing I feel like doing.
Over the last few months I've questioned our motives to homeschool and even made a decision to send one child to private school (to pull him out again after just a few months). In the process of sending him, I learned just how strong my "want to" really is.
So here we are: at home, learning brick by brick.
